A lovely quiet visit to Tavuni- no one else was there until the end of our self-guided tour. Entry was $15 FJD each and well worth it. You are given a leaflet to describe the markers on the trail and the historical background about the village that used to be there. The views are also incredible- you can see all of the hillside and Sigatoka river. The hill fort was closed due to covid but reopened in May 2022, so go check it out! A tip: If you don't have a car, walk along the gravel path on the other side of the bridge from Sigatoka. It's a great way to see and interact with the people from villages on the way, and you get to walk along the river. You can also hitchhike along this strip at any point: there's carriers that go by which will charge $1 FJD per person. We were fortunate to get picked up by a lovely family driving by so didn't need the carrier, but try and get a carrier if you can because someone might charge you a lot if you're unlucky!

Tavuni Hill Fort, is a cannibal historic village. Remnants of the village buildings still remain. The ‘killing stone’ was used to bash in the heads of the opposing tribal warriors they where at war with. They were then cooked on the lovo (fire pit) & eaten. You will meet a guide at the entrance who will give you the history of the village. It is then a short walk up the hill in your own self guided walk to explore at your leisure. Very interesting part of Fiji history. Well worth the drive just outside of Sigatoka. Beautiful views of the land below. Cost was $20fjd pp.

This was an amazing experience even though there was no guide. There are "enough" written signs, explaining what, where, who. It feels like you are transposed in another time, which is both exhilarating, due to the history of the place, and also so amazingly relaxing, like there is no more time. Wonderful panoramic views. As we were up on the hill we saw youth swimming in the river below, even a young man entering in the water with the horse and all. Parking available.
