The visitor center has been recently opened in 2022 and they have a great installation of, i.e., old military equipment, miniatures of ships that took part of the battle of Bomarsund, and informative videos with a narrative that is subtitled in Finnish, Swedish, and English. If you own a Museum Card, the entry is free-of-charge. The installation presents the historical role of Bomarsund all the way back when Åland was under Swedish rule, then under Russian rule when the fortress was began to be built to solidify Russian control of Baltic Sea, and finally the destruction of the fortress by British and French naval forces that was connected to Crimean war in 1850's.
