A nice place to stop for a quick sights tour to the awesome Finnish swamps in any time of the year. There's the round about route with the sight seeing tower that takes about 30 minutes or an hour with small children. Then there's the possibility to park further away and walk back and forth to that route. All the routes on the swamp are made of wood planks (pitkospuut in Finnish) so your feet wont get wet.
There are very tidy outhouses and a fireplace next to the sight seeing tower. Remember to bring your own toilet paper.
There's also a short wheel chair accessible route to the swamp edge from the main parking area. In 2019 this was in a bad shape and going through renovation. One of the toilets next to sight seeing tower was also wheel chair friendly. The tower area is on top of a small hill however and the tower it self has only stairs.
In the winter there are skiing tracks to choose from.
This is also very close to another national park Liesjärvi so I suggest to plan going there at the same trip to see why people lovingly talk about Finnish lakes all the time.
All in all Torronsuo is a great place to stop by to enjoy nature with or without friends and children. The only down side is that everyone else knows this too and sometimes there aren't any places free on the parking area and you have to wait 15-30 minutes for...
Read moreIf you like bogs - this the place for you! The national park of Torronsuo covers over 30 square kilometers of bog and forest. They have nice well signed trails of various lengths around the park. I like the 8.5 km Suontaival trail which covers most important places. It is a wonderful walk with long long duckboards. I would highly recommend taking it. There are two parking areas with toilets along the trail. Remeber that during the summer there might be a lot of mosquitos so prepare for them accordingly. The park has english...
Read moreOne of the 40 national parks of Finland ... all of them being unique. This one has miles of duckboards to walk on in open scenery (one could imagine being in Lappland but this is merely 1,5 hours drive from Helsinki). Mind relaxing place, worth to visit! There are no specific services: a new shelter and dry toilets were being built in June 2020. Re-timbering duckboards project was also ongoing. Apparently good skitracks (traditional Nordic) winter time on flat...
