Toivakka Church — Attraction in Jyväskylä sub-region

One of a kind church thanks to its unique paintings by local artist Pellervo Lukumies made in 1972-73. Back then it was a huge scandal, the parrish even resigned from his job because he got so upset as the art differed so much from what church art traditionally looked like.This is as far away from white washing as you can get. Lukumies studied the bible and painted biblical characters and angels looking like humans from all corners of the world. He figured God has created everyone and loves everyone equallt much, thus the oaintings features native americans, induans, asians, africans in traditional apparels. 6.2025: We came to see the Pop-Art paintings from the 1970s on the church's ceiling and weren't disappointed. This little wooden church is really worth a visit. Take small change with you if you want to take a postcard as a souvenir. Check their opening...

Erittäin kaunis ja upean historian omaava kirkko Toivakan kirkonkylän sydämessä. Kirkon ympärillä kaunis ja perinteikäs hautausmaa, joka kannattaa kävellä ympäri kirkolla vieraillessa.
