Hiidenportti National Park — Attraction in Kajaani sub-region

Hiidenportti National Park is not the easiest to visit. It has a limited trail network, and the services are quite far away, but it is a national park I highly recommend. The silence, tranquility of the rugged nature, and the stunning beauty of the Hiidenportti Gorge make it worth the visit.

The shortest circular trail from the Palolampi parking area to Hiidenportti Gorge is only 3 km/1.9 miles. You can extend it to 5 km/3.1 miles with a visit to the Porttilampi lean-to shelter. The Kovasinvaara homestead site (no buildings left) is also along the trail. It’s a relatively easy but beautiful trail, and I was completely surprised by the majesty of the Hiidenportti Gorge. Wow!

Helteessä patikointi pitää kaikki loitolla. Hiidenportin kansallispuisto on mahtava paikka. Jylhät maisemat, pitkospuita, metsää ja vaativia kivisiä polkuja hyvillä korkeuseroilla. Reidet hapoilla ja taattu piukka pylly. Ei missään tapauksessa esteetön. Kulkeminen paikoin hidasta, mutta lomalla ei ole kiire. Mahdollisuus uida sekä nauttia eväitä ja paistaa makkaraa. Jylhät maisemat. Parkkipaikka jälleen täysi mutta sinne luontoon ihmiset häviää, törmättiin vain yhteen pariskuntaan. Opasteet paikan päällä vähän heikot joten kannattaa ottaa selvää etukäteen mistä portista sujahtaa kansallispuistosta sisään. Seikkailimme tovin, ajelimme pikkuteitä, mutta vihdoin löysimme perille.
