Walked the trail in mid winter (early March). Definitely worth it but please remember it's a non maintained trail in winter so depending on the amount of hikers before you, the trail is either packed or not, with ice underneath. In any case take at least skid barriers or snow shoes and/or poles with you in case you end up in 'nasty' situations because of the many frozen steps. Especially the descent/ascent at Kallioportti (100m) is dangerous. Somehow people think sliding down is a safe thing to do, making it more difficult for others. I dare to wonder out loud if this part should be open in winter 🥺🤔. The advice on the trail is to go counter clockwise but from there going back is 8-10 km. I therefore walked clockwise with the option to return and do a part the other way around. This decision was also made because of the temperature at the time (-17°C). Many tasty berries around (have a local point out which are edible) and a public fireplace for cooking or warming-up. Just remember to chop firewood to replace what you use. There is an old river-powered mill to see as well, but unfortunately badly vandalised. The trail is easy, but ice and tree roots can be difficult for elderly persons. This trip needs a fitting trailing shoes, water, snacks, mosquito repellent and also you should take a good camera cause you want to immortalize this journey.
