Taidekeskus Salmela — Attraction in Mikkeli sub-region

This is an excellent place where the actual Finnish art is exhibited and sold. The Art Center occupies the whole village totally refurbished for that purpose, there are several houses that are used as galleries, e.g. the main mason, the pharmacist house, some installations were put in the former barns or stables. All this adds special touch to the center as an art in the open air. The village is situated by the lake and water landscape is magnificent. There at the lake shore you can go and have a rest in a boat shed, or shore sauna, or sit on the pier on a bench to have a break from the massive amount of good quality art. This venue offers an amazing seasonal art exhibition every summer with great variation of different Finnish modern artists and painters, so there’s always something of interest for everyone.

The price for admission is fair and you can even buy the pieces on display, or if you want something to take with you on the day there is a changing selection of smaller pieces for sale in two small “shop rooms”.

Art exhibition for mainly new young artists. But it always includes art from more amous famous artists. Exhibition changes every year. I really recommend to visit this place If you are an art lover. Well, even if you are not familiar with art, this is a great place to get to know it better.
