Pont d'Espagne — Attraction in Argelès-Gazost

We visited Pont d'Espagne for just a couple hours during a day trip into the Pyrenees from Lourdes and found this to be a really neat outdoor location to the southwest of Cauterets. There is a large parking lot at the main entrance (parking €8 for the day, €11 max after 12 hours).

Within the protected grounds, you'll find paved and easy walking path to the historic Bridge of Spain and be able to see a lovely series of cascades. There is also a charming cafe where you can grab a drink or light bite to eat just beside the falls there.

If you have sufficient time, you can hike onward along designated trails that lead to other waterfalls as well as a trek up to Lake Gaube. During Summer season, there seems to be cable car access to higher grounds with a shorter hike over to the lake.

Overall, we really liked what we found during our limited time at Pont d'Espagne. Next time around, we would allow for much more time here, at least half a day if not the entire day to explore more of the waterfalls in the area and the...

We really enjoyed our summer visit to the lac de Gaube. So to get there, head to Pont d'Espagne go all the way to large carpark at the end of the road. Take a parking ticket at the barrier, it has 15 minutes free parking on it so you can decide if this place is for you or not. Parking is 7€ but that is refunded if you buy a ski lift ticket, 15€ for adults. You can either go up the two stage ski lift and walk 15 minutes to the lake, or walk up to the lake, which is not for the faint hearted. We took the cowards way out and went up by ski lifts and walked back down. The views at the lake are stunning, well worth the money or the effort. Also, close to the car park there is an easy walks up to a set of waterfalls, also well worth the effort. Practical information first. The car park is large and well organised, and the parking is free if you take the lifts to the top. Else it is between 7-10 euro for the day. There is a gondola which takes you to the bridge and an amazing waterfall with a restaurant. The walk to this part is quick and easy so perhaps the gondola is not needed. After that there is a chairlift to the top or a 1.5 hour walk. At the end of the chairlift it is a 15 minute easy walk to the lake. You can swim in the lake but it is very cold! Also available at the top is a restaurant but take some cash because there is not much service so sometimes cards do not work.
