Just went today and had a blast. The place is easy to find, and the owner is extremely welcoming and speaks fluent English. He game me and my wife a tour of the entire property, including bits and pieces of history of the 700 year old Chateau. At the end we had the wine tasting (5 wines). Then we found out he also makes his own pear and grape juice...and tasted that as well (which I happily purchased together with the wine). He also produces a small quantity of olive oil.
As for the wine, if any aficionado is reading this review I'll be a bit more descriptive. His main grapes are Grenache, Syrah and Carignan and his wine reflect that
The first TWO vintages we tried were made by his father and had no Syrah (introduced later in the vineyard). Austere, full body, red ripe fruit (reflecting a hot vintage). Nevertheless well balanced by the alcohol and the tannin. (vintage 2015 is i remember correctly)
The next two are his own. The first one Grenache and Carignan (an explosion of red fruit, well balance acidity and tannins), the next one mainly Syrah (Slightly peppery and spicy with good tannins). (Vintage 2017)
The last wine (still his) is the same Syrah but matured in oak. Fortunately not an overwhelming oak flavor, but a slight, well balanced hint of toast and vanilla, with smooth tannin
In summary, a well worth visit with a caring owner and great young wines. I would definitely...
Read moreReally a great tour. We arrived early, but not a problem. The winemaker greeted us warmly and spoke english very well. His nephew gave us the tour. The nephew was charming and very knowledgeable. He patiently answered all our questions and showed us all the elements of the operation, including the rare cement vats and aging cellar. This is a charming smaller winery as well as a farm, very picturesque. After the tour, we went to the tasting room and they opened 4 bottles to taste, just for my girlfriend and me. All were delicious, we bought two of the aged wines and enjoyed them very much. The winemaker joined us and was kind enough to prepare a fire in the tasting room. Highly recommended - a real highlight of our trip! Best wine tour...
Read moreAfter having visited vineyards across 4 continents, I can humbly say this vineyard is definitely my most favorite. We stumbled upon this at the last minute and called them up to check if they are open. Luckily they were and I was surprised to see the whole place so secluded and private. Christoph not only gave us a tour of the vineyard but also was super hospitable and gave us a tasting of the wines and the pear juice made right in the site. I was at one point wondering how the hell a place so historic and utterly drop dead beautiful so devoid of crowds. But I guess that is what makes this is an unexplored gem in Avignon and probably the whole of France. I would absolutely recommend you...
