What a magical experience our family had at this beautiful abbey! My sister and her husband invited family from the United States to share the Normandy area for two weeks in July. We used this property as a home base for our exploration of history, beaches, restaurants, artist venues and charming french culture.
With the rental of 4 bikes, we often road through Longues-sur-Mer to the ocean. It was delightful to ride along the coast, by the german bunkers and down to the secret pebbled beach for some exercise and tranquility! You could feel history come alice while peddling by cows, the bakery and school.
Isabelle, Gerome and their family were so kind and helpful. It was delightful to practice our french from days gone by and interact with such caring people. An interesting fact is that an American in 1935 purchased the abbey that had fallen into disrepair and improved the property. Years later, Gerome's father bought the abbey and his children are improving it further.
We recommend this location to Americans and others to experience the serenity of a small french village. The home sleeps 10 and is perfect for family reunions, trips with friends or a reward for business promotions. A beautiful room can be rented for weddings and other gatherings, so this could be a very cool desitination wedding.

Read moreIn a world that over-promises and under-delivers, the Hotellerie de l'Abbaye is a wonderful exception. We were a family party of 8 adults, looking for a special place to meet for a landmark birthday. From the description and photos on the website, we had very high expectations, and the gite exceeded them all. The grounds are beautiful, with the remains of the abbey a powerful spur to the historical imagination. And it's quite a thrill to see the huge bell and floor tiles from St. Mary's Abbey in the Baron Gerard Museum in Bayeux, and realize that that's the place you're staying! The gite itself is spacious, private and comfortable. Whoever designed the building renovation deserves to be complimented, because it is the perfect combination of modern convenience and historical charm. The gite is fully equipped, even including laundry soap for the washing machine. The location is perfect for touring the Bessin region, which is a fascinating and beautiful part of the world. A very special place and very highly...
Read moreI stayed for a week with my family at the beginning of July. Overall it was a really fantastic experience. We were given a warm welcome by the owners on arrival which put us at ease immediately and set the tone for a relaxing holiday.
The Abbey and grounds are wonderful. The private tour was a real bonus and well worth it. It truly made you appreciate the amazing surroundings in which we found ourselves.
The pictures of the gite interior on the website don't do it justice in honesty. The rooms are large, airy, full of character and well decorated.
The local amenities are minimal but perfectly adequate. Who doesn't want fresh croissant and pain-au-chocolat from a boulangerie 3 minutes walk away every morning? A lovely treat! A large supermarket is less than 5 mins drive away for the larger shop.
Highly recommended for all those who wish to relax and explore the local area at a...
