We visited Ambronay Abbey and had a peaceful, enriching experience. The abbey was quiet, allowing us to take our time and fully appreciate the ambiance of this well-preserved historical site. Die ehemalige Abtei fällt den aufmerksam Reisenden schon von der ehemaligen Nationalstraße her auf. Einer der alten Verteidigungstürme steht noch und ist von der Ain-Ebene aus sichtbar. Ursprünge des 1791 säkularisierten Klosters gehen auf das 9. Jh. zurück, das Kirchengebäude ist in früher Gotik gebaut, wirkt durch schlichte Rundsäulen und relativ niedriges Gewölbe etwas wuchtig, eher wenig Lichteinfall. Interessant das Chorgestühl und die Bleiglasfenster sowie das Ehrengrabmal des Abtes, der der heruntergekommenen Abtei Anfang des 15. Jh. zu neuem Glanz verhalf. On vient de visiter l’Abbaye qui est magnifique, par contre il n’y avait personne à la réception pour nous guider! elles étaient 5 entrain de manger à l’extérieur, pas un bonjour. On a été reçues comme des malpropres alors nous étions que deux sur tout le site, on a demandé les toilettes à ces dames, elles nous ont répondu avec un air hautain et un ton très désagréable d’aller au village au WC public! Et en partant vers 14h, personne toujours personne à la réception! ABE changez...
