We had a great hour or so wandering around this huge piece of history. The lady at the ticket booth was lovely, very friendly and so was her colleague who was sitting outside. She slowed down her French enough that we could understand the info she was giving about the route round and the discount you get at Cadouin Cloisters if you show them your tickets from Biron (they were once owned by the same famoly). There is an English booklet that you read on the way round or an App that you can download to give you an audio guide with QR codes in each room to scan. We couldn't be bothered with downloading an app so used the paper guide. It was slightly out of order compared to the way you traverse the rooms but really didn't matter. We really appreciated that the place had not been decked out top to toe in furniture, some rooms were very sparse but actually the lack of distractions made you appreciate the history and age of the rooms and their purpose. The restoration of the parquet floor that has been done is stunning, there is a before display to show you just how much work has gone into it. Some of the buildings and rooms just ooze age and you really feel what it would have been like to live in them. If you like the history of Simon De Montfort and Henry Plantagenet, this castle is for you. The views are enough to make the visit worth it, they were stunning, I think 30km all around. We also stood on the roof and watched a Military cargo plane fly by low which was an added bonus. On a side note, there are loos (very important) and they had actually been built inside the castle which was surprising. In addition, there are also loos at the back of the information centre in the village which were frankly the cleanest public loos I have encountered in France so...

This is a fab authentic old chateau. It hasn't been primped and preened for consumers so it feels the real deal. At 9.50 to get in plus 3E to hire an audio guide we felt it was good value for money. I would recommend the audio guide as you get alot of interesting information about the history of the chateau. There is a QR code at points of interest. We liked the way the route was signposted so there was a natural flow around unlike a previous chateau we visited where everyone was just pushing past each other both ways with no signposted route. We arrived at mid day and there was no queue. After lunch when we left at around 2.30 there was slight queue. The last room we visited had a full on tour with guide so it was difficult to hear our audio guide. It might not be accessible for people with walking difficulties or mobility issues. Amazing views of the countryside from all around the chateau. Definitely worth a visit if you are...

A great chateau to visit and one of the more well preserved ones. It has great views all over and has much to visit inside. To break up the visit inside, there’s games and activities such as archery and indoor activities to partake in at no additional cost.

If you didn’t purchase an audio guide like us, you may struggle to understand and appreciate the history behind this chateau. There are QR codes at each point of interest but as we didn’t use them, we’re unsure if this provides you with any information at all.

Overall a great place to visit and if your trip is limited to a few chateaus, this should be included as...

Been a couple of times. This time we went for the tapestry exhibition. We are exactly aficionados but wow we lived it. There are docents to walk you through and educate you on what your seeing. Very helpful and friendly. Best part is that after viewing the old tapestries that are hundreds of years old you then are treated to modern day tapestry - so cool!! But the reason you visit is the château and we absolutely love it there. History and beauty.
