This is an extraordinary location. At the end of the Giffre Valley you are surrounded by walls of stone that tower above to form a natural amphitheatre over 1,000m high. It is impossible to capture the magnificence of the location with a camera.
There are walking trails, waterfalls, horse rides , restaurants, woodlands, lakes and meadows to explore. This is definitely a place where you can spend a whole day taking in all the sites and more importantly just absorbing the atmosphere.
On a practical note the Cirque is a short drive from Sixt and Samoens and there is a free car park at the entrance (with a 30 minute walk to the main area) or you can go to the upper car park where you pay but it is only a two minute walk. There is a information centre where you can get all the help you need to plan a fantastic day. There are camp sites nearby as well as hotels and other accommodation all within a 15 minute drive.
I used the French government's map service Géoportail which is available online or at the app store and is a brilliant place for looking at topographical maps and planning a walking route in advance. There are parking spots near, for €7,- a day. The free parking is a long walk away. There are terasses for refreshments. It's a bit overpriced, but you have beautiful surroundings! The public restroom was dirty, and I would not recommend it! Also, it is not available by wheelchair. The giftshop does have a cleaner toilet, though! For the more experienced hiker, there is also a...
Read moreOne of the exceptional place to visit on Summer. Spacious parking is available and heard it is free during winters and costs around €5-6. There's a visitor centre where you can relax and toilets are available.
Some of the walks on the sides of the cliffs are only destined for experienced walkers and and there are places you can explore by walking over slippery rocks so make sure you are fully informed of your route.
Fantastic views of mountains, waterfalls, wild flower meadows, snow capped mountains. Bring more water to keep you hydrated as it'll be...
