From Col de Balme, you can visit overlook the Chamonix valley and peaks on both sides of the valley. Moreover, you can take a nice stroll to the Swiss borders and have a nice hot chocolate at the Refuge. Weather changes very quickly. On our hike to the Swiss border, it was cold, misty and drizzling. After hiding out at the Refuge for 30minutes, our hike back to the chair lift was breezy and sunny. Photos for reference.

We came to this pass at midday after having started our hike at the refuge Le peuty on the Switzerland side of the pass. I think it was about 800-900 elevation. The view is stunning. You see the green needle and the Mont Blanc range in all it's glory. It's rather windy so bring a windproof jacket. There's a refuge at the top (if you want a drink or a meal) and a water spring for you to refill too.

Perfect ski with misc slopes for different levels. Especially good for snowborders. Lots of off-track among the trees on the back side towards Vallorcine. Very sunny in the afternoon with great view on the Mont Blanc, Aiguilles Rouge and the whole valley. Possibility to start from Vallorcine for less crowd.
