Complaint Regarding Disrespectful Behavior Towards Drivers at Mont Blanc Tunnel Dear Mont Blanc Tunnel Management, I am a professional truck driver, and I recently passed through the Mont Blanc Tunnel, traveling from Italy to France with a refrigerated trailer (frigo). However, at the time of crossing, my refrigeration unit was switched off. Upon arriving at the designated area, I saw a sign directing "frigo" vehicles to a specific lane. Since my refrigeration unit was turned off and not active, I believed that instruction did not apply to me and continued straight ahead. At that point, a staff member approached me and began yelling in a language I could not understand, using an aggressive and disrespectful tone. Despite my attempt to calmly explain that my frigo was off and that I did not intentionally disregard the sign, the staff member continued to behave rudely and insisted I enter the frigo lane, with a hostile attitude. I would like to express my disappointment with the way drivers are treated in such situations. Truck drivers often travel long distances, under stress and tight schedules, and simple mistakes can happen. This does not justify being treated with disrespect or aggression. We pay to use the tunnel like any other user, and it is unfair to be subjected to such treatment. The salaries of the staff are, in part, paid thanks to the services we use and pay for. Therefore, we deserve at least basic courtesy and understanding, especially when a misunderstanding occurs. I hope you will take this feedback seriously and ensure your staff are trained to communicate respectfully, particularly with international drivers who may not understand the local language. A more professional and supportive approach would not only improve safety and efficiency but also show appreciation for the essential work drivers do in keeping goods moving...

If you are American you must pay with your debit card or euros because they will not accept a visa at this tunnel. We were supposed to be on the main roadway but were detoured to the second tunnel’s roadway, and then were detoured again to this one. We waited nearly an hour to get to the gate to find out the tunnel was 53.50 euros. We had been using our credit card throughout our seven day drive through different countries with no issues but they would not accept it there. We had 20 euros and even offered to pay the gate keeper $100 to go through and were still turned away and were told we would need to exit the line and take a 4 1/2 hour route around because of the other tunnel closures. Thankfully we found a sweet girl who was willing to pay the difference for us and the toll keeper allowed us to cut back in the line. My frustration is no one knew why the other tunnels were closed (found out on the other side of the mountain it was an ultramarathon) and there was no other way through. There was no indication a visa credit card would be an issue and the sign said visa cards were accepted. Frankly, they should have waved the toll for everyone because it was not our intended route...

On this occasion we came back into France via the tunnel, which now costs €55 - (up €10 from 2yrs ago) To be honest the whole experience was spoilt by the disorganised & unfair queuing system in operation on the Italian side. As you approach the tunnel, traffic is directed into two lanes; one for lorries & buses and the other cars. The problem is that after the official in the fluorescent jacket monitoring the lanes moved away lots of cars started using the commercial lane & ended up pushing in nearer the tunnel entrance. The situation is further exasperated by the fact that if you follow the correct left hand lane, there is only one toll booth taking payment at the entrance, whereas the commercial lane was serviced by three toll booths . We joined the queue at 700m and it still took us nearly an hour & a half to get to the tunnel entrance. Personally, I think the cost is a bit of a rip off, but it does save time & I appreciate for much of the year it’s the only option. My advice would be, that if at all possible use the right hand lorry / bus lane as it will probably save you at least an...

The Mont Blanc is an easy way to avoid Switzerland through to Italy if you are a truck driver, but it's expensive I mean €550 return for a Truck, the return ticket lasts 14 days. Remember either side you must get the emissions ticket Euro 5 and 6 are only allowed to travel through the tunnel, if you do not get the emissions ticket you will be turned around and will have to drive the 30 kilometers back to the emissions station. The emissions station is better signposted on the French side in 3 languages, French, Italian and English. Trucks normally at night you cannot go through with a truck, I think from 9pm until 5am, you have to park up at the emissions station in lines and then get your emissions ticket then drive through in the morning. The emissions station have good free toilets, showers and a coffee machine. It's 2 way traffic through the tunnel so concentration is needed, plus do not speed! Cameras are watching your speed, which is normally 70kmh and no slower than 50kmh. Cars are €60 return and Motorcycles €40. The run up both sides is beautiful.

The Mont Blanc Tunnel is certainly the fastest route connecting Courmayeur and Chamonix.
I have been using the tunnel for thirty-five years, having lived for a long time both in the Aosta Valley and in Chamonix. For years, I used it twice a day, so I know it very well. Its length is 11.6 km.
The journey takes about 15 minutes.
The maximum speed allowed is 70 km/h, with overtaking prohibited for the entire length of the tunnel.
The minimum distance between vehicles must be 150 meters (equivalent to two blue lights apart). All traffic and any driver irregularities are monitored by security cameras and special systems designed to detect violations.
If an infraction is committed inside the tunnel, the vehicle is immediately stopped at the exit, both on the Italian and French sides. The price for a round trip ticket is: * Car (Class 1): €68 * Vans and campers (Class 2): €91 * Motorcycles (Class 5): €45 You can find the updated price list and further information on the official website: www.tunnelmb.net
