It was late in the day, but the gates were opened with more than a few cars in the parking lot, people in the Welcome Center and people who were in the field of the Chateau. With no knowledge of their kept hours and (excitedly) only wanting to take ONE quick photo as it was rainy, my husband pulled me up to a parking spot, car running, and I hopped out with my phone in hand. A French worker approached me speaking quickly, aggressively and loudly. I explained that I didn't speak French (I'm American) and just wanted one photo, she rudely responded in English that they were closed and we needed to leave the grounds immediately, right back through the way we came in, right that instant. I said, "I can't even take one quick picture?" and she said no, that I needed to leave NOW. My husband (who is French) rolled down his window seeing there was an issue of sorts and told her I just wanted one picture and she exhaustedly and (again) rudely told him for me to make it quick as she had been working since 10:00. But I had already gotten back in the car due to her crummy demeanor. Realistically, in the time she was talking, I could have taken 10 pictures and already have been on my way. Read moreWe visited on a day trip from Bordeaux to learn about the world and life of Montesquieu. Our French was good enough to enjoy the guided tour. There is so much to see inside as well as enjoying strolling through the park and garden. I loved taking photos of the chateau from its exterior. This was a great day and very memorable. What’s important to know is that the place is beautiful and the tours, especially the one of the park, are wonderful. It becomes much easier to read the Great thinker knowing how and where he worked.
