The Abbaye de La Sauve-Majeure is a breathtaking site steeped in history and serenity. Surrounded by vineyards and rolling hills, its majestic Romanesque ruins rise proudly against the sky. Walking among the columns and carved capitals, you can almost feel the centuries of monastic life that once filled this place. The view from the tower is spectacular, offering a glimpse of the peaceful countryside. It’s a perfect destination for history lovers, photographers, and anyone seeking quiet beauty in Bordeaux’s hinterland. Timeless, spiritual, and...

Impressive ruined abbey of great historical significance, great for a day trip from Bordeaux and a 1 1/2-2 hour visit. Very kind staff who give you a detailed guide of the important stonework to see during the visit. Beautiful view across the valleys from the top of the tower. Only 8 euros for the tour plus a wine tasting in the nearby entre-deux-mers...
