Abyss of Fage — Attraction in Brive-la-Gaillarde

The caves themselves are stunning and the visit is worth it if you love caves and rock formations, stalactites and stalagmites, with a bit of archeology.

Going in the afternoon you must join a tour, which is given in French. They did acknowledge us, told us the rules in English, and to read the signs, but it did mean standing around while the French tour group had discussions about the cave and bats. There was still plenty to stare at while that was happening.

There is one section where you can, if you want, squeeze through a very small opening on your hands and knees.

You're not allowed to take photos, which I think is a shame. I could understand if it was no flash photography, since that would disturb the bats, but most phones have low light modes that take great photos without a flash.

The other amenities are OK, with a children's play area and bar area. The souvenir shop...

This was a lot bigger and a whole lot more impressive than I was expecting, from when you go into it the contrast from the surface world to the subterranean world via the green shaft is quite striking, the first gallery goes on a long way with really impressive stalactites and columns, the first gallery alone is worth the entrance, the second gallery has some of the densest displays of stalactites I've seen and is also very impressive. The only things I think could be better, I'd like an audio guide in English, and at a couple of places the tour guide talks for a very long time and those parts could be shorter. Votre réponse à mon commentaire ne veut rien dire, et c’est normal après tout, car il n’y a rien à voir dans votre trou (du gouffre bien sûr…).

Un des moins intéressants gouffre visité. Et vous en avons déjà fait quelques-uns.

Il n’y a en définitive que peu à voir et il faut faire preuve d’imagination comme demandé par le guide…

Chose impressionnante, et c’est la seule, la descente avec toute cette végétation.

il paraît qu’il y a des milliers de chauves-souris et qu’il faut parler doucement… la encore bien vouloir faire preuve d’imagination… du coup même en imaginant qu’on chuchote on n’en a pas vu une seule, sauf 1 fausse pour explication !

Le petit coup du tunnel à quatre pattes c’est bien gentil, mais tout ça ne vaut certainement pas ce tarif de 9,50€ par personne, et la on est dans le domaine du réel et concret en espèces sonnantes et trébuchantes…

Notre dernière âgée de 14 ans a eu droit au tarif « grand », et comme nous étions 4, ça fait cher pour pas grand chose.

J’aurais bien aimé vous laisser « imaginer » que nous avions payé… hélas trop tard, la patronne veille à la caisse et cela sans aucune imagination.

Et à ce prix on n’a pas envie de donner un pourboire au guide, qui se démène comme il peut pour essayer de rendre interessant l’inintéressant. Les explications sont tout de même bien insuffisantes.

De plus photos interdites ! Dès fois qu’on pourrait voir l’invisible !!!

Les si beaux avis sur Google: Impossible ! Mais on sait comment ça marche ces petits affaires la… solution : chercher les mauvais même s’ils sont cachés désormais, et il y en a.

Conseils aux visiteurs : Imaginez que vous y êtes allés, ça vous coûtera moins cher et ce sera mieux que d’y...
