A surprise to find this Norman fortress which receives very modest publicity. Once upon a time this was a very well presented national monument but sadly it has not been maintained but the basic ingredients are still there.

Visité une première fois en septembre 2021 (avis non publié). J'y suis retournée deux ans plus tard pour cette fois-ci découvrir les nombreux sentiers permettant de se promener autour des vestiges de cette forteresse médiévale,  bâtie entre les 10ème et 13ème siècles, ayant appartenue aux seigneurs de La Pommeraye. Visite en 10 étapes (QR codes à flasher ou audioguide à télécharger : parcours château Ganne au temps des chevaliers) Entrée libre. Très beau site. Je recommande.

Ce site est très intéressant tant au niveau historique qu'au niveau structurel et architectural bien qu'il n'en subsiste plus que des ruines. Il est l'archétype des premières constructions fortifiées qui ont abouti au château fort. A l'époque médiévale, de nombreuses mottes castrales parsèment la région, le Plessis Grimoult, St Martiin de Sallen etc. On peu regretter un manque d'informations sur le recensement des ces mottes, sinon vaut le détour.

Wonderful ruins of and ancient fortress. Simple nameplates and an artistic interpretation made in metal what might have been going on in several remains of buildings helps to create a mental image of how life once was there. Free and easy to reach. Certainly recommend a visit if...
