This is not an official open place. I posted photos of the gate that you must walk through. It is across from the Belleau Mairie Bus stop. Its Private property, but you are safe to visit the fountain. Watch my video to orient yourself. There is also a museum in the Mairie Building. Check it for open hours because they change seasonally. If you find that the gate is locked, gi to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetary and Memorial just down the road. The security guard will have the key. You can take it and bring it back like I did. This was a very good visit for me. 11 years Active Marine Corps and a huge history fan. I drank from the fountain. I highly...

Visited here early October 2023, a must for all Marines! Here’s the deal:

  1. Museum is closed a few days a week, and the fountain is kept behind a locked gate. No problem. Just walk to the American cemetery, see the caretaker or any of the security members and they will give you the key.
  2. The road is narrow, and people live nearby. It’s a decent walk, maybe 500m from the road, so older persons and those with limitations may have difficulty with that.

Hope all current and past Marines are able to make this pilgrimage with their families....

When visiting, check to see if the museum across the street is open for the season yet. The gate to the fountain will be locked if the museum isn't open yet, but all you have to do is to go to the visitor center at the Aisne-Marne American Cemetary and they will give the key to you to use and you just return after you're done. Yes, realistically this is just a fountain for Joe Schmo....but for a jarhead, this is a must. Drink to the former Marines and drink for the...

I didn't read the reviews before going, that's on me. The museum across the street, which apparently controls access to this site, is closed from November 11 to May 8. I wish I had known, or that there had been information posted at the museum, that a key was available at the cemetery. I still have to say I am grateful to the people who maintain this site.
