Once a farm and now a very charming museum where Jean Francois Millet was born and raised. Normally he is simply remembered as one of « Barbizon school », but he had such an understated yet singular style and vision, that Van Gogh called him his « spiritual father » and copied all of his paintings, and Salvador Dali was obsessed with the « Angelus » his entire life and even wrote a book about it ! The exposition is done with much love and care, the girl at the entrance is delightful and goes out of her way with information and guidance. The village around is dreamlike charming…. The only thing to improve are the English subtitles to a little video - they are incomplete and inadequate. And it would be great to translate other texts into English as well, so more people can enjoy they visit to this little jewel…

A lucky find on my way back to the ferry. His paintings were the focal point of my late grand parents kitchen in Ireland. Unfortunately they burned with the house 3 years ago. An emotional visit, but I'll take it as a sign as I return to my almost finished period building from the time of JF Millet.
