Abbey Maillezais — Attraction in Fontenay-le-Comte

We visited the Abbey at Maillezais on a quiet Tuesday morning and enjoyed wandering around the grounds and learning about the history. Such an interesting place. Top tip - take one of the guided tours ( in French) and the history of the abbey is brought to life. The views from the top of the tower are amazing - take your time walking up the stone staircase! Extraordinaire endroit, j'ai visité se lieu en plein milieu du mois de janvier, et c'était vraiment tranquille, on ne peut pas dire le contraire, le parking est immense, mais j'imagine bien en pleine période estivale, le patron du restaurant annexe à l'abbaye m'a dit qu'il y avait près de 100 000 visiteurs en juillet & août, alors la le parking doit être tout petit, mais il y en a un autre 200 m avant tout aussi grand, sinon l'endroit est magnifique, on sent que les murs en on vu au fil des siècles, l'endroit est propre et il y a 2/3 tables de pique-nique, l'entrée du parking principal est tout de suite rentrant dans le village à droite, et vous avez même la possibilité de louer des barques à l'entrée principale de la demeure, c'est d'ailleurs à cette endroit qu'il y a le restaurant avec la terrasse, l'ensemble est vraiment splendide, sinon quand vous sortez du parking à droite vous avez le village, en hiver pas de problème, mais en été, je vous conseille "vivement" de laisser votre véhicule sur le parking pour visiter les rues adjacentes, en face le dit parking il y a une petite crêperie, à faire aussi,...
