Mining Center of Faymoreau — Attraction in Fontenay-le-Comte

This museum is a fascinating place to visit. It covers the history of the mines in Faymoreau as well as the day to day lives of the miners and their families. Unfortunately, the inside part of the museum is in French only. The audio guides for the mining part of the village are available in English, an interesting tour in itself. There is also the Chapel with stained glass windows by Carmelo Zagari; which is absolutely beautiful and is relevant to the struggles of the miners. Interesting exhibition. It's a pity, that inside there is no audio guide available, only a printed short translating of each sections. Whoever takes the outside village tour, can take although audio guide with a map. People who are interested in the new age powering , heating with coal, and it's regional history- going to find it worthy and entertaining. Musée en haut d'un petit village au-dessus de l'hôtel historique, et situé dans un des bâtiment d'origine de la mine proposant une reconstitution du cheminement d'un mineur jusque dans la mine avec la reconstitution de quelques tunnels. Les enfants peuvent s'amuser en s'habillant comme un mineur et toucher des reproduction des lampes et le parcours est agrémenté de vidéos explicatives, d'affiches et objets d'époque. J'ai trouvé toutefois une certaine redondance dans les informations fournies au cours de la visite car le sujet général est présenté de façon très accessible et cela peut manquer d'un peu de fond pour les visiteurs les plus avides de savoir. Il y a toutefois matière a se perdre dans les documents historiques et c'est surtout l'histoire du site et son rayonnement régional qui est particulièrement intéressant. Jusqu'à fin 2023 il y a une exposition présentant les bâtiments du village et de la mine en Lego, avec une façade a creer pour les enfants en fin de parcours.
