Too expensive for what it offers. The animals are truly amazing, the reserve itself is not as far as it presents itself as a premium guest experience.
While the horse safari is an interesting concept, the guiding we received was unstructured and not well rehearsed. I still don’t know the history of this place or intended purpose other than vaguely. The guide was kind and spoke to us in English. Which was good as we otherwise would have had to rely on two of us interpreting all that was said. But on the other hand, receiving guiding in English isn’t an extreme request.
The rooms are overpriced and one even smells moist and moldy. The ecolodges appear priced with no basis in reality considering what they are (permanent tents).
It’s clear to me who specializes in customer experience design that the place has not been organized for guest comfort or based on guest needs, ranging from reception of new guests to offering something as simple as a cool drink. By the time our safari was over, the cafe had closed and I had to give up on enjoying a cool beer while watching the sun set over those majestic hills.
Add to the fact all the small nuisances such as that there are no ramps in the main gate making it an obstacle for strollers and wheelchairs. And the gate to the road was locked when we tried to depart. No one had told us how to unlock it. Guests aren’t even allowed to park their vehicles near the lodging making the place less accessible to elderly.
And I haven’t even mentioned the restaurant that they package into the overnight deals. I didn’t think you could find bad food in France - man have I been ignorant. It has its own review area so I’ll add my remarks there.
The staff was all friendly but almost no one spoke English. That takes away a star right away.
All this would have been fine if it all wasn’t so expensive.
My point is: the work they do at the reserve seems well-intentioned and is clearly important but the place doesn’t work as a private reserve experience and it costs far too much considering what they offer their guests.
My advice: go there, stay a day and pay to be guided, enjoy the stunning location and the majestic hills, avoid the restaurant and admire those bisons. Then donate some money to the...
Read moreWe've stayed twice at this reserve. Things have changed a bit, due to health and safety rules (as everywhere). The 'tents' are now in an enclosed reserve, great views, much larger tents (1 double bed, 2 singles in each), with heating (not needed in July). ||There is a clean communal (dry style) toilet serving 4 tents. If you prefer traditional flush toilets you will have to walk down near reception, 3 immaculate flush toilets there.||Evening meal is a bbq brought to you outside your own tent, loads of food provided, you cook your own meat. The utensils were so clean they looked brand new. Wine can be ordered to accompany your meal.||There is also the possibility to stay in a lodge, never tried it.||Breakfast is served in the restaurant building. Simple continental breakfast, but buffet style so there is plenty to eat, and GREAT croissants.||We felt that we were welcomed as part of their family, just a great night away from the heat, loads of animals, crystal clear star gazing. There is a pool, no chemicals added, so more like swimming in a lake than a pool.||Included is a visit of the reserve on a trap pulled by 2 cart-horses, and a walking visit for about an hour with a guide. Take your camera!||All in all very friendly, but professional and knowledgable, safe fun (by the way there is a nice kids playground as well). Highly recommended for anyone that...
