At first glance, Pont-en-Royans looks like a charming riverside village. Then you notice the houses… dangling over the cliff as if they missed the memo about “ground floors.” Built in the 16th century, these pastel beauties seem to be permanently leaning out to get a better view of the Bourne River—though I suspect they’re also eavesdropping on tourists’ gasps.
It’s the kind of place that makes you wonder: were the builders geniuses, lunatics, or simply allergic to flat land? Either way, the result is equal parts postcard and optical illusion.
