Tahiti Safari Expedition — Attraction in Hitiaʻa ʻo te Rā

The tour was so poorly run that we left the tour after just half an hour into it. I spoke to one of Expedia Staff, who advised they would follow it up.

We started our tour late, as we were advised the guide was outsourced. The guide, whose English was not to good advised us the tour would not finish until after 7pm.

As we were on a cruise ship, the ship was due to depart at 6pm. When i made booking originally, the tour was going to finish at 5pm, which would have been ok. As our next port of call was New Zealand, we were concerned we would miss the ship.

There were two other parties on the tour, and they were actually staying in Papette, so time was no issue for them.

We made a stop about 30 mins into the tour, and after 40+ years experience in Hospitality, 20 as a tour guide, we had a bad feel about this tour. As we were on the back of a vehicle, there was no commentary given at all.

We were advised this would be the only stop for food supplies for the day and there would be limited toilet stops.

My wife and I were so concerned we would miss the ship leaving, so we advised guide we were not continuing as this was NOT the tour we had paid for.

Nous avons réservé une excursion safari dans la vallée de Papenoo par téléphone le lundi pour le mercredi 1er octobre. L’homme qui a pris notre réservation était très aimable et nous a demandé de nous présenter à 9h15 à la réception de notre hôtel. Le jour même, nous étions présents à 9h14 exactement.

À notre grande surprise, la guide Loana nous a accueillis d’un regard très désagréable, comme si nous étions en retard, et nous a parlé de façon sèche, sans sourire ni la moindre bienveillance. Pour une excursion censée être conviviale et agréable en vacances, cela a immédiatement laissé un goût amer.

Au moment de monter dans le véhicule, alors que d’autres pouvaient s’installer à l’extérieur du 4x4 (ce qui est justement l’intérêt principal d’un safari dans la vallée), elle nous a brusquement désignés pour aller à l’intérieur, dans la cabine fermée. Lorsque je lui ai demandé gentiment si l’excursion allait se dérouler ainsi, elle m’a répondu d’un ton très sec : « C’est vous qui avez réservé à la dernière minute », avec un regard méprisant. Quand j’ai confirmé que nous avions réservé le lundi pour le mercredi, elle a rétorqué « ouais voilà », sous-entendant que nous n’avions aucun droit de réclamer quoi que ce soit.

Un tel comportement est inadmissible : nous avons payé le même prix que les autres et méritions la même prestation. Si la place à l’extérieur n’était pas garantie, il aurait simplement fallu nous le dire au moment de la réservation.

Voyant que j’étais agacé, elle a finalement appelé un autre guide pour nous transférer, sans que l’on sache si c’était pour se débarrasser de nous ou réellement nous arranger. Heureusement, nous avons pu finir l’excursion dans un 4x4 normalement configuré.

Cette expérience a été gâchée par l’attitude hautaine et méprisante de Loana. Nous déconseillons fortement de faire une excursion avec cette personne, qui n’a absolument pas l’attitude professionnelle...

We had a good visit to the Papenoo Valley in the 4x4. Our driver was experienced and made us feel safe despite the difficult road conditions. We captured many nice photos. We do wish we could have made a few more stops to get out and take pictures since many were taken from the van, and wish we had more commentary. (A local guide from a different van was kind enough to speak with us.)
