Incredible Medieval Experience at Château de Murol!
An absolute must-visit if you're exploring the Auvergne region! Château de Murol is one of the best-preserved medieval castles in France, perched dramatically on a volcanic hilltop with stunning panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. From the motorway it looks magnificent!
The castle offers an immersive historical experience with live reenactments, costumed guides, and interactive tours that bring medieval life vividly to life. Walking through the stone halls and climbing the towers felt like stepping back in time. It’s also very family-friendly—kids will love the knight shows and medieval demonstrations.
The site is well maintained, with clear signage in French and English, and the staff are enthusiastic and knowledgeable. There’s also a lovely picnic area nearby and a charming village at the base of the hill.
Highly recommend visiting in the summer months when the full program of events is running. A perfect mix of history, scenery, and culture.

My mine problem with the castle was that it is quite small. We paid 24 EUR for three paying visitors (those under ten are free, which is good). We spent about an hour there. With more multi language content we would have spent longer there, which would have made the trip...
