Staying here made me feel like I living in the late 1800s. Not only does this the chateau have INCREDIBLE curb appeal, we got this wonderful sense of peace on Day 1 of our stay as we walked through the forested pathways. As we walked around the castle/chateau, we went from forest to field to vineyards.||||Our rooms had 14-foot ceilings, possibly higher, with a massive ensuite as big or bigger than most hotel rooms we stay at. The bed was great (I’m very fussy when it comes to beds). Owners Pierre & Alix have done an incredible job as custodians of this 500-year-old family property. The heritage in the windows and doors is so well preserved; and the walls—great old wallpaper or wood paneling, with an 8’ x 4’ coat of arms, along with many family portraits from 3 or 4 different centuries.||||Pierre is a classic French gentleman, ex-Navy but with a quick wit. His sense of humor is as dry as his wine (which I thought was a bargain at 17 euros!). If you ask him he will give you a tour of his winery. He’s in the Castille Batillon appellation, only a few kilometers outs of the more famous (and much more richly valued, he sighs with a wry smile) Saint Emilion appellation. ||||Breakfast was traditional French breakfast, along with eggs—different breads, tea & coffee and various fruits, yogurt etc. Each morning at breakfast you overlook the meadow. I didn’t know whether to expect to see Snow White or a herd of deer come out from behind the forest edge into view while eating, but that’s the setting you get.||||Pierre—who speaks good English—also had some great suggestions for dinner and day trips. ||||We did swim in their HUGE inground pool one very hot day, along with their grandchildren. There is no A/C, but the thick stone walls of this chateau--built in 1868--are a very cooling insulation.||||It was the best experience. I wish our scheduled allowed us to stay longer. We...

We stayed at the chateau for 2 nights as a family of 4 and could not be happier.||The ambience is phenomenal, based in a family Chateau with a rich family history. Everyone room has a history and decorated with family heirlooms and antiques which we found so generous for the host to share.|We had adjoining rooms which are spacious and again, furnished beautifully. The bathroom was massive|Breakfast is served in the dining area. ||The always smiling Paula cooked beautiful eggs for us each morning, as well as setting up a very generous and scrumptious breakfast of bread, croissants, cold cuts, cheese, muesli, yoghurt and fresh juice. ||The pool was deliciously cool on a hot summers day, with a diving board, with the most amazing backdrop of forest and the chateau. We spent a very relaxing and lazy afternoon around it.||Ines warmly welcomed us from when we arrived and was always on hand to offer help and assistance. She also took us for a wine tour and the chateau provided free tasting for guests which was most enthusiastically appreciated by us, sitting on the balcony.||Jean, the owner is a very humble and friendly man who took time to explain his family history to us as well as certain artefacts and photos. He made great recommendations for local eateries too. We were greeted each morning by Skinos, the resident dog who loves a good cuddle and play.||Town is 15 mins drive away and this chateau provides a great place to explore saint Emilion and surrounds, but there is also plenty to do in the château. ||We cannot recommend chateau Pitray enough, the warm, inviting and relaxed attitude made us feel very welcome, and would...

This Château was better than expected and the host Anne and Jean Christophe could not be more hospitable. Their lovely home is the perfect place to immerse yourself in the Loire Valley. At the end of the day after touring the castles relaxing at Pintray was the highlight of our day. The enormous bedrooms were decorated in the classic French country style with gorgeous antiques and the flower gardens around the house were beautiful. It was close enough to town that we did not mind driving into Amboise for dinner each night.
