Castle of Brousse — Attraction in Millau

A fantastic fortified castle on the Route des Seigneurs du Rouergue in Aveyron, overlooking its medieval village, listed as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France. Standing proud with its towers and fortified walls, the castle dominates the Tarn Valley, between Albi and Millau.

Perched on a rock, the Château occupies an elongated platform resembling the prow of a ship, where the waters of the Tarn and Alrance rivers mingle. The castle, overlooking the Tarn Valley, has preserved its fortified walls and a large part of its patrol path. It belonged to the Counts of Rouergue and then to the powerful Arpajon family from the 13th to the 17th century. Things to see in the castle : the prisoner's tower, the Princess's tower, the seigneurial lodgings, the officers' lodgings ...

And in this amazing and so authentic village, you can also visit the 15th century Church of St Jacques le Majeur, a few kilometers away the oratory of St Martin awaits you as well as the Church of St Cyrice which will offer you a magnificent panoramic view...

We visited as part of a group with a guided tour of the old village streets the church and the castle ramparts and chateaux. All of which offered wonderful views and the guide was very informative. We took lots of photos, even some from way back on the road bridge which offered the best overall view including the setting on the confluence of two rivers. An excellently preserved historic monument which is well worth the visit....

Brousse le chateau, un ravissant petit village médiéval, solidement ancré au contrefort de la vallée du Tarn, coiffé par son chateau posé là sur un piton, semblant défier le temps tout en guétant encore l'arrivé de l'hypothétique ennemi... N'hésitez pas à vous perdre au creux de ces ravissantes et étroites ruelles serpentant au travers de la pente, elles vous conduiront toujours au château. Celles-ci sont bordées de charmantes maisons séculaires lourdement chargées de vies, et pour peu que vous leurs prêtiez attention elles vous délivreront, peut-être, quelques furtifs détails relatifs à leurs très longue existence. Quant à la visite du château, en toute liberté, ce qui en soit est déjà un immense un privilège, c'est une immersion, un moment de plénitude et de sérénité au coeur de l'histoire d'une région brute, qui ne dévoile si facilement ses secrets. Ne pas oublier la magnifique église Saint Jacques le Majeur, une véritable petite merveille architecturale. Dénichez également les artisans d'art et autres artistes locaux du village, celui-ci n'est-il pas un site propice à l'inspiration en toute quiétude ?... Que ces instants magiques, matinés aux lointaines traditions et autres légendes oubliées, que ces instants passés aux portes d'un autre temps restent à jamais gravés au fond...
