Beaulieu-en-Rouergue Abbey — Attraction in Montauban

Magnificent, inspiring, intriguing, unforgettable, un-missable. This is a very special place and is highly recommended for the whole family. Well preserved and restored ancient abbey buildings. Intricate planning, river re-routing, and construction of the gardens, pond, fish pool, and water flows. Insightful glimpse into a thousand years of local history. Beautiful gardens with lawn, seats, ancient trees, water features, beautiful scenery. Fascinating ancient stonework which illustrates the wealth, organisation, and artistic appreciation of the Cistercian monks. There are several art installations which I found superfluous, dated, and out of context - arguably it emphasizes the contrast to the current era. I could have spent hours here, but in the French way, it closes for lunch at noon :-( I will return with all my guests from now on. Ample parking, moderately accessible, €6 standard admission. Le parking est vaste, accessible PMR, et équipé d'une borne voiture électrique. Toilettes à disposition côté jardin.

Cette abbaye est absolument splendide.

Les jardins sont si beaux, qu'on pourrait y rêvasser pendant des heures, sans jamais s'en lasser. Magnifique travail de bosquets, surtout qu'à cette période toutes les roses sont en fleur, j'ai rarement vu un jardin aussi poétique et touchant. Les arbres centenaires vous offriront une large ombre, sous lesquels ont été installés de nombreux bancs.

L'abbaye en elle-même est majestueuse, les travaux de rénovation colossaux sont très réussis, les divers artisans ont nos meilleurs compliments et remerciements, maintenir nos monuments classés en vie est une mission très importante pour notre patrimoine.

Des expositions d'art sont visibles dans les étages des anciens dortoirs, ainsi qu'au cœur de l'abbaye. C'était de l'art contemporain, pas trop notre genre mais ça plaira à d'autres !

Nous avons été accueillis par un duo de dames qui se sont fait un plaisir de nous garder nos équipements de motos, et avec qui nous avons eu l'occasion de parler de l'abbaye avec passion.
