Grand Etang de St-Estèphe — Attraction in Nontron

One of the best days out in this area! I still can’t quite believe it is free!!! We arrived at around 12:30pm and left at 6:20pm and not once did I hear the dreaded words, ‘we’re bored’. The parking is free and ample. The area was impeccably clean and it felt safe. Areas zoned off for small children to paddle and the swimming part of the lake clearly marked by buoys. The kayaks and paddle boards are free to use - go when there is no queue. You are permitted 30mins which is ole toy of time. You are supplied with a life jacket. The lake itself was clean and warm. The sand was hot and again clear of anything dirty or dangerous to feet. Shaded areas fill up quickly so bring an umbrella. Food was reasonably priced. Do not touch anything you wish to buy!! You must ask the attendants to get it for you or you face a stern telling off :-/

The walk around the lake was lovely and the pull boat was an experience.

Overall an incredible day and we shall definitely return...

Small beach with free sups, canoes, playpen. There's a walk around the lake complete with boat crossing. Le Rock Branlant is about 500m from here as well. Parking in the shade if you're lucky.

Most special is that most things are fully wheelchair accessible. The playground, the beach, the tour around the lake, the boat crossing. There's a special water wheelchair available as well as one with extra thick wheels to cross the sandy beach. 👨‍🦽❤️.

This year they added special equipment to aid blind people on the beach and in the waters(?) not entirely sure how that works.

This is certainly a great place for the kids, a clean fresh water lake which has life guards on from 11am to late. There is a nice clean beach area, with seating in the shade both near the food shops and the beach. Good quality food is served and is reasonably priced. The icream selection is great. There is free canoes that you can use for 30 minutes at a time. Very nice to float around the lake. There is a park for children too which is nice. Also a paid for adventure climbing activity, prepare for rope burns though. This is a great place for the family on a full day or even a few hours...
