I visited this area with my family (wife, 6 yo daughter, 2.5 yo son, and retired in laws) in late july, and it was idyllic. Its a mix of forest and farmland, and the area is known for its excellent produce. You can drive for half an hour and see just a handful of other cars. We stayed for a week in a spacious old gite just outside a small village. Our first few days consisted of days out to local landmarks. But after that, we preferred to spend our time more local - swimming/relaxing at the beautiful large lake at Saint Saud or in the gite swimming pool, eating delicious local produce, making campfires at the gite - roasting marshmallows and watching bats and stars, afternoon walks through forests looking for deer. It will pay dividends. Secondly, you will almost certainly need to speak a little French - not a lot, but it will help. All in all, we had a genuinely relaxing trip. Getting to spend so much time with my children, watching them do new things,...

Ultimately - despite the challenges this poses - this is what the human soul truly needs, so for those struggling with it - take heart, sit with it and let...
