Don't expect the white sand beaches you might think French Polynesia is famous for; Tahiti has primarily volcanic black sand beaches and they are great. This is a wonderful beach to enjoy a sunset, and watch all the surfers (there are some really talented locals). They also surf way into the night, no idea how they can see.

There are usually quite a few people here, but it's a huge beach so it's easy to spread out. Plenty of parking, and there are areas to BBQ away from the beach as well, along...

Really cool black sand beach with ample free parking. There was a surfing competition happening when we visited that was cool to watch. The beach was plenty large if you’re planning to spend the day and layout here - plenty of space for all. There were not a lot of people in the water but that could have been due to the...

Big black sand beach with lots of surfers around. Fresh water area right behind it which leads into the ocean. Very rocky once you get in so if you plan on playing around at the shoreline bring something for your feet and be careful not to get tossed by the waves/current...
