A well-maintained and interesting display of trees and shrubs.
Up above the town of Canet, next door to the crematorium, is this arboretum. I mention the crematorium as that is the sign to look out for on the way there if you are coming by car. There is also a footpath alongside the mill stream from Canet Village, and you can cycle.
It is free to enter and roam around. The opening hours are:
Winter (October to March) 7.30 to 18.00 Summer (April to September) 7.30 to 21,00
Although since it is dark by 19.30 in September, and a lot earlier in January, you won't see much on a late visit! Be warned that a full-sun midday visit in the summer months will have you drooping, and there is nowhere to buy a drink. Take your own.
There are some interesting labels on the trees, giving some additional information. I never knew, for example, that some species of oak don't drop their leaves in autumn but in spring when the new growth comes through.
Currently (autumn 2016) there is also a large display of sculptures by the Italian artist Piero Cipolat. Google him! One of the sculptures is interactive - you are invited to take a marker pen and write on it some philosophical thought or other message.
A particularly pleasant feature of the Arboretum is the Arid Garden, with cacti and other plants that live in desert conditions.
Jam, olive oil and olives are available for sale at the appropriate time of year, and other fruit (especially figs) too on...

Obviously a combo of town management and volunteers, the extent and detail of the fauna presented is a minor miracle of persistent care (and irrigation). Despite its apparently unpromising location (the regular No.3 bus stops at a roundabout on the main road to Perpignan, next to the Town Cemetery), this is a delightful, quiet oasis away from...
