Absolutely gorgeous long and sandy beach. Came with my wife during the holidays and it was packed but still big enough to get your own area far enough from all the smokers to be able to breath fresh tropical air. The beach sand is very soft and the only waves are the ones made by the jetski tourism. There are patches of small reef scattered about a few meters out. Definitely don't step on any of them barefoot, we snorkelerd and there are lots of sea urchins. This is also a great beach for the beginner snorkeler since there's a big reef area by the cemetery (to the right if you're facing the water)... Just don't get too close since you can see the poor reefs are already damaged and barely holding on. Regardless we saw a lot of colorful and tropical fish! Very family friendly beach and awesome looking bar/restaurants hugging the beach. If you want to try a "bokit" at one of the food trucks as local foodies suggest just be aware it's a big sandwich! We had no clue (since we don't speak French) and ordered a Bokit among other things and it was definitely...
Read moreWe have been exploring all the beaches of Guadeloupe and this one is definitely worth the 1.5 hr drive for us. It is crowded as all the popular beaches are but still felt like we could find some space not on top of people like St Anne. The water is a lovely turquoise. The sand golden and soft. The waves are not too big but sometimes powerful enough to knock over a little kid. My older kids loved them. After reading some articles about this being a good snorkel beach, we brought our snorkeling things but we were disappointed. The visibility in the water was not awesome (unsure if this is normal or just today) so it was cloudy and couldn’t see much. There were some large rocks by the north part of the beach that had a few fish but nothing much. MAJOR PLUS: they had public trash cans!!! First we’ve seen! And you can tell- it is a very clean beach. There are restaurants, food vendors, water sports activities but NO TOILETS we could find. There was one but it was locked and out of use. We have yet to find an open usable bathroom on any beach...
Read moreWe came upon this locally famous beach after exploring Basse-Terre, Les Saints, and Saint Anne, St. Francois, and even Le Moule’s beaches. We have to say, I can see why it is favored by the locals. The vibe here is way cooler for us then in the touristy beaches. It felt like a slice of California. I really loved the options for a picnic and local food trucks. There were a lot of families with young children but a nice offering of adult sports. Surfing is possible but this day we went the waves weren’t big enough for me to bother renting a board. I met Max a surf instructor and would recommend him based on his excellent English and he was very polite. The views are quite nice and there are plenty of places to rest and nap in the shadow play...
