Medieval Castle of Saint Montan — Attraction in Privas

We spent our holidays here. We learnt that the reconstruction was achieved by hundreds of volunteers from all over the world. That's quite remarkable et really astonishing !!! Though lack habitants, the night is just amazing. The stars surrounded us and we were so small. Medieval village that dates from about the 12th century,was left in ruins until the 60's when an association was created to reconstruct the village identically as it was before !! Visiter le château de Saint-Montan, c’est comme sauter dans une machine à remonter le temps… sauf qu’ici, pas besoin de DeLorean ni de Doc en blouse blanche. On entre dans l’Histoire en claquant des sandales ! Les acteurs en costume sont bluffants : on croirait que les habitants du Moyen Âge ont juste pris une longue pause café avant de reprendre leur vie comme si de rien n'était.

Mais le vrai héros de cette aventure, c’est le village lui-même. Ce château, c’est un peu comme une ruine qu’on aurait passée au spa : il est magnifique, restauré avec un soin fou, et surtout, par les mains des habitants. Oui, des vrais gens, avec des marteaux, du courage, et beaucoup de passion (et sûrement quelques courbatures).

Bref, un voyage dans le temps drôle, émouvant, et franchement impressionnant. Foncez-y, mais attention aux dragons… on ne...
