The Moulin de Verzenay was built in 1818 by the miller family Tinot-Vincent on the Mont Bœuf near Verzenay. In 1863, the miller family Boudeville bought the estate with mill. The operation ended in 1903, as the miller had decided that the mill should not turn after his death. Later, the mill went into the possession of the house Goulden and after the First World War in the von Heidsieck over. A restoration of the mill took place in 1949 at the suggestion of the then Heidsieck management. Today the mill is owned by G.H. Mumm and, in its exposed position, one of the few extant witnesses of the numerous formerly existing mills in the vineyards of Champagne.

As Dutch residents, we are naturally drawn to the windmills and so should you because what a wonderful use of a sunny day. Beautiful views over the vineyards/fields, a quiet and calm place to just sit and fulfill your impressionism dreams of drinking wine and painting. It's well maintained and respected by visitors - no litter anywhere. The windmill itself was closed but that didn't stop us from having a pleasant afternoon

We had a private lunch at Moulin de Verzenay and it was just an amazing experience, the food, the Mumm RSRV champagne selection, the service, the view and the historical heritage of the place itself. We literally dined in a piece of art and history. Memorable.
