Tombe de Merlin — Attraction in Rennes

Since I was a child I have been fascinated by the Arthurian legends, and visiting this place was magical for me, not because of the tomb itself but because of everything that surrounds it.

However, I would not recommend this site for everyone, as the remains of the tomb are not as "impressive" as other monuments in the region.

Yet, if you are a fan of Merlin's story, you will surely be enchanted by the magical aura of the site and the landscapes.

First off, this is not a French Stonehenge but it is a well worthwhile stop while traveling through the area. Parking is free and caters for a good number of vehicles. There is a forest walk that takes you to the visitors centre experience which is paid for but you can just do the walk and use the toilets.

The stones are set in a wooded glade, some horizontal but many standing.

There were a few people milling around but you can generally find an angle without showing them...

L’histoire de ce lieu est intéressante car il était situé dans la forêt de Brocéliande et a été déplacé à cet endroit à cause des pilleurs de tombes. L’aura mystique y est toujours et cela reste un endroit à visiter (Allez-y de préférence le matin tôt entre 9h et 10h, vous éviterez les vagues familiales parfois bruyantes).

Points Forts : Belle reconstitution avec un vent de légende permanent. Panneau racontant l’histoire de Merlin et de son amour pour la fée Viviane (J’ai aimé le dénouement). Point de rencontre pour les passionnés de mysticisme (et ceux qui souhaitent faire un vœu). Accessible rapidement.

Points Faibles : Chemin pierreux et boueux par temps humides. Visiteurs bruyants et peu respectueux du lieu que ça représente (c’est avant tout un tombeau). Nos amis les chiens (propriétaires canins , ramassez les déjections svp).

Conclusion : Si vous recherchez l’atmosphère calme de ce lieu (ou si vous souhaitez déposer votre vœu à l’abri des regards indiscrets), l’idéal est d’y aller tôt le matin ou en fin de journée.

Si l’ambiance est calme vous apprécierez le bruit du vent caressant les feuilles des grands arbres qui veillent sur ce tombeau...
