Very nice zoo with plenty of monkeys, birds, and reptiles to see. We went with our toddler and it was a great experience for him. We could see almost all the animals and they seemed to be well taken care of. The animal enclosures are conveniently positioned, so that you can't get lost - you just have to keep going up (it's in a steep, mountaneous area). There are also plenty of picnic tables to eat outside and you can bring your own food and warm it up in a microwave. You can easily get out of the park and bring your food in. If you don't want to go through this hassle and you want to eat there, the prices are very affordable for a meal (burgers, fries, etc.) There are, however, a couple of reasons that I won't give 5 stars. the first one is that the lions and tigers weren't there. They were removed a few weeks ago. The second one is that the only animal feedings available to see are the gorillas and the wolves, Out of so many animals, it seems to me that they could have offered more, especially for the monkeys. We went to the gorilla feeding but had to move outside and in the end it lasted for a very short time and all we could see was how the feeder tossed them vegetables and that was it. It felt disappointing. I guess, we were expecting more of a show with some info about these gorillas, but it's not...
Read moreI have been going to St-Martin-La-Plaine since I was a young child and although I have now moved abroad, my children are most insistent we visit every time we are back to France. This is a very special place for us and both my children and myself love coming back! The animals always look happy and well-looked after. The park is not so big that you lose the will to live half way through but not so small that you find yourself wondering "is this it?!". The owners are dedicated to animal welfare and you can tell that the zoo is a labour of love. The passion for (their / all) animals shine through everything they do and it is such a pleasure to see. I love the beautiful plants and trees, the generous enclosures with tons of enrichments for the animals. It always feels such a privilege to be able to see the gorillas, tiger, wolves from so close!! The profits raised by the parc zoologique are poured into numerous charitable projects across the globe and many of the animal on display were rescued from terrible circumstances. There is a fabulous gift shop & an outdoor and indoor food outlet offering snacks, hot food and drinks. Definitely recommend a visit. 100% worth...
Read moreGood zoo close by Lyon. The zoo offers some great species of animals, but I think the price is too high. You can spend a couple of hours here, but the park is small and completed within 2 hours.
We missed a bunch of animals, despite taking the time to spend extra time in the park after finishing the route. We missed the coatis, servals, binturongs, dingos and some more. Very poor habitats for some animals and some animals did not seem to have any space, like the ocelots. We did really enjoy seeing the snow leopards and the arctic wolves.
The park smells bad in a lot of places and the hygiene in the toilets is just bad. For such a price we expected clean toilets somewhere, but it was very poorly maintained.
Parking is free. €18,50 is too much in this case, but it’s not a total waste. Hopefully it is being used for future wellbeing of...
