What a wonderful castle. Amazing location and gardens.
We came here (in August) on a wonderful, sunny day. Surprisingly there were not many visitors. Probably due to Covid-19. For 8.50 you can walk around the grounds and the gardens freely. And it is quite a big garden with a wonderful pond, actually more of a little lake I'd say. Everything was well taken care of. We were lucky to bring our dog in, since she was in a completely covered (and closed) stroller. I'm thankful for that, if not, my wife and me would have had to take turns to visit.
It's just an amazing castle. It's like you step back in time or you feel like you enter a fairy tale here. It's breathtaking. Be sure to walk the whole garden and go to the very end - up to the steps. The views from there are beautiful. We didn't have time to enter the castle this time - since we also planned to walk to the grottes afterwards.
For only 8.50 you can roam around the whole area and you can visit the absolutely amazing grottes. The caves/caverns where prehistoric men lived. It's a very very special place and I've never seen one up-close. You even can walk around inside the caves - all by yourself. I enjoy history - and this is a great lesson in history. Be sure not to miss it when you visit the castle. It's a nice walk through the forest from here.
For the entrance fee you get a lot. Imagine how much it costs to keep this castle, the garden and the ground in shape. That costs money and manpower. The entrance fee is more than fair. It's a great deal.
Bathroom and picknick facilities are also on the grounds as is a smaller restaurant and a souvenir shop at the entrance.
A wonderful experience, we stayed much longer than planned. A...
Read moreLovely castle which is currently still occupied. The grounds are nice to walk round - not huge - tidy and being worked on whilst we were there. I think they were building new retaining piles to keep the water courses contained. We went on the chateau tour which was in French. There is an English day if you want to wait and go then. We had a booklet which explained to us everything we were looking at in the various rooms. If I were being critical I would suggest that some of the items could do with a clean to make them look even more magnificent. Nothing over the top, just get rid of the dust and maybe a bit of polish! There is a little cafe just outside the gates which we ate lunch in. This was very nice and very good service. We did walk to the caves but on reflection I wouldn't really say this was worth the stride. They were just holes in the rocks (I know that's the definition of caves) but as they weren't lit or anything you couldn't see anything inside as it was too dark! It was well worth the entrance money and I would recommend visiting if I were...
Read moreA typical elegant French chateau with massive manicured grounds. We arrived in the rain and settled down to a comforting coffee in the cafe just outside the grounds, that we returned to for lunch. Unfortunately our coffee stop meant that we missed the morning chateau tour, so we started our exploration around the grounds, initially in the rain, however there were several indoor exhibitions about the history, including the prehistoric history of the the chateau and grounds. As the rain turned to dry and then sunshine we explored the wonderful expansive formal gardens. Plenty of photo opportunities. After a lunch break we returned for the afternoon chateau tour. Unfortunately no photos are allowed inside. The guided tour was undertaken by our guide in French, although there was a written your briefing in English, the guide went into a lot more detail than the briefing, probably the only negative we had. It was a lengthy and enjoyable tour. At 15€ for entry to the gardens sand tour or 12€ just for entry to the gardens we felt it was good value and we'll...
