We enjoyed our visit to this pretty unique Chateau. Unlike a recent reviewer, who saw overcrowding and falsehood-(Thousands!!...where?) What we saw was an ancient chateau, built and rebuilt-in keeping with its history and the story of the region. (A very well put response too😉) This history is self evident, however it is also expertly told, via an included device, in multiple languages. Another big plus point is the remarkable story of Josephine Baker, most likely unknown to many non-French visitors. An eye-opening experience and highly recommended! Although we have had a home not too far from the Chateau for some years, this was actually our first visit, I'm pretty sure we will return, and with other family members. Highlight the age/authenticity v practicality, preservation and cost of historic buildings, our own humble house incorporates a number of developing features over its pretty puny 250 years, the Chateau is almost three times this age! It's pretty simple really! The story of the little church is also an interesting aside. The gardens and water festures are excellent and worth a visit in their own right, and we also enjoyed the food in the brasserie. Well done, to the family owners and...
Read moreYou may not know the history of the dancer and celebrity Josephine Baker but the information here at this beautiful chateau will inform you. We had some refreshments in the cafe/bistro and I can recommend the express menu- too many frites perhaps but well presented with a salad. The grounds of the chateau are quite small compared to some but the audio guide is great so you can wander through the rooms at your own pace. Josephine was not just a former folies bergere (?) dancer - a racy one too for the time but a woman of colour who impressed with her love of France and her work in the war time resistance movement. She received honours for her work. She also adopted 12 children which I had no clue about before we visited the chateau. A woman ahead of her time and well respected. We really enjoyed our time learning about Josephine and seeing this lovely building. We didn’t have time to see the birds of prey but that is probably...
Read moreOne of the worst castles I have ever seen and been. The queue is very long but they give you the option to complete a long online form, so you can skip the long queue but you will spend at least 10 min filling the form. Something very unusual for these Days. The garden is very ok, and looks stunning in the pictures or videos but the castle itself is not good. The architecture inside is not unique and it looks a fake copy of everything. A mix of bad taste. The staff is very unprepared, and you aren’t allowed to take pictures inside. I got the conclusion that is a marketing strategy for curious people like me, because if I had the opportunity to see before i wouldn’t spend money going there. They don’t divide people in slots so literally you share your walking with hundreds or thousands. It’s very packed and I would consider a tourist trap. If you Can don’t not go. I definitely NOT recommend...
