I just cannot believe how the young lady at the boutique of the chateau was so rude and sarcastic with me just because I asked where the exit is. She was obviously irritated by my question and she started to make fun of me indicating how I should walk and another lady who was standing next to her I don't know if it was her mother was having fun of this instead of realising that this is a very unprofessional and rude attitude towards a client and a visitor of this castle. Young lady if you don't like talking to people please don't be there because you spread negative reputation about this place with this attitude. It's absolutely normal when the tourist enters a new building to get lost sometimes and if this happens to you in a foreign country I'm sure you will not like it if they face you the way you faced me today. Being rude and nasty doesn't make you special it makes you look rude and that's it. I would suggest you come to my country and see how we treat tourists. My...
Read moreWow !! Well we've visited some fab places on our French tour .... and this really is a highlight. It's an amazing fairytale (sleeping beauty was initially written here) chateau. Around €15 each. Parking opposite (no height barrier). Allow a good couple of hours to wander. The Chateau has a tower visit - complete with little sleeping beauty scenes, the Chateau itself has numerous rooms - all plaques in French and English. Then there'd beautiful gardens to explore - currently being planted up. The Chapel, the stables and the cellars are just as interesting. There's no toilets in the Chateau itself, (some behind the Chapel - some further down by the entrance), and no refreshments - cafe in the carpark. Little gift shop. English information sheet given to us on arrival. This Chateau is entrancing- we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Beautiful and...
Read moreThere are some slightly odd reviews of Chateaux d'Ussé regarding the Sleeping Beauty element. My family found the castle to be charming and a lovely day out. We have visited a fair few chateaux and this is in my favourite list. The building is beautiful and the gardens pretty and compact. Lots of fruit trees and formal citrus which is unusual. The rooms are made far less boring by adding well made manakins in period costume. These are also employed along with the many spiral staircases to tell the story of Sleeping Beauty. I was impressed. We usually move as fast as we can through rooms of guilded furniture and gloomy paintings of strange looking overweight men in staged poses on fictional horses. This time we spent as much time in the house as out. A job well...
