My father and I have been to Romagne twice, and for the second time, we booked a tour with Jean-Paul and spent an afternoon with him walking and driving through the countryside around Romagne.
It was a beautiful experience. We got to see small, yet incredible little details that gave us real context of how life was for the German soldiers 10-15 km behind the front between 1914 and 1918.
Jean-Paul's anecdotes and perspective always focus on the human side of the war, how life was for the average, everyday soldier.
This shines through in his collection, his stories, and the places he takes you during the tour.
Romagne may look like a tiny town in a very rural area of France - but it has centuries of history hidden beneath the soil (and with a bit of luck, you'll find their remains on the fields during a tour with Jean-Paul).
