Makhuntseti Waterfall, located in the scenic highlands of the Ajara region near Batumi, is a natural wonder that mesmerizes visitors with its beauty and tranquility. Cascading from a height of approximately 20 meters, the waterfall is a refreshing retreat, surrounded by lush greenery and the serene ambiance of the mountains.

The journey to Makhuntseti is as captivating as the destination itself. Winding roads through picturesque villages and vineyards lead to this enchanting spot, offering glimpses of rural Georgian life. Upon arrival, the sight of the roaring waterfall, its crystal-clear waters tumbling over moss-covered rocks, is both exhilarating and calming.

Nearby, the historic Makhuntseti Bridge, an ancient stone arch bridge believed to date back to the 12th century, adds a touch of history to the experience. The combination of natural beauty and cultural heritage makes this location truly unique.

Makhuntseti Waterfall is easily accessible and offers amenities like local vendors selling traditional Georgian snacks, honey, and crafts. It’s an ideal destination for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone seeking a peaceful escape from the bustling city. Hidden in the mountains of Ajara is Upper Makhuntseti, a village surrounded by cliffs, home to one of Georgia’s most popular waterfalls. Makhuntseti Waterfall is located a short five-minute walk from the main road, plummeting fifty meters into a large natural pool surrounded by greenery.

Makhuntseti Waterfall is open year-round, with picnic spots dotted all around and local vendors selling everything from local Adjarian cuisine to organic honey and fresh churchkhela. Fried fish served with wine from Keda area and traditional Georgian spirit, chacha, are a must taste if you’re looking to immerse yourself in local...

What a beautiful spot to spend an afternoon! We arranged for a private taxi driver to take us out to the Waterfall and back. The price for the day was incredibly reasonable (less than 100 Lari). The drive was about an hour drive from Batumi and very scenic. We went in late July so it was a bit more crowded, but still very nice. The waterfall is beautiful and the water is cold and refreshing to wade in. There are some small booths, set up outside the parking area, selling souvenirs, local wines, and honey. The prices were pretty reasonable and I recommend trying the Chacha local...

For those who have not seen a real natural beauties maybe Makhuntseti waterfall would be impressive. For me, nothing special, too crowded and noisy place. If you are in Batumi for a while and have no idea what to do and dying of boredom or the waterfall is near the road you are on, maybe it won't be a bad option for a break. But honestly, I have no idea why people are giving five stars. 🤷 NOTE: if you decide to get there anyways the perefect season would be spring or early summer because the water would be abundant and waterfall more impressive accordingly

It’s a lovely waterfall about an hour from Batumi by local marshrutka. Take bus 77 marked “Keda” from Batumi bus terminal in city centre. Pay the driver on board 3 lari, they will know to drop you at entrance to the village where the waterfall is. Please be aware that all of the little shops and market stalls around the waterfall have inflated prices. There is a small Spar market on the highway at village entrance where you can buy beer and snacks to enjoy while you are at the waterfall
