Nestled in the picturesque landscapes of Georgia, Martvili Monastery proved to be a cultural and spiritual gem during my recent visit. The church, perched atop a hill, offered breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The peaceful ambiance created an ideal environment for quiet contemplation and reflection. The well-preserved frescoes and architectural elements told a story of the monastery's rich history, providing a glimpse into Georgia's ancient past. While the site itself was awe-inspiring, the lack of interpretive signage or guided tours may leave some visitors yearning for more historical context. Additionally, improved facilities for visitors, such as seating areas and informational materials, could enhance the overall experience. Despite these considerations, the monastery left a positive impression on me. For those interested in history, culture, and a touch of spirituality, Martvili Monastery is a recommended destination for tourists.

This monastery is a true gem, boasting breathtaking beauty and a rich history that transcends its modest surroundings. Unlike other monasteries, it's easily accessible, with a short walking distance that belies its significance. Perched on a hill with ancient pagan roots, this sacred site once featured a massive oak tree worshipped for fertility and prosperity, and tragically, infant sacrifices. The complex comprises multiple buildings, including a stunning main cathedral, chapel, and monks' quarters, each reflecting a distinct era in its development. The architecture showcases a fascinating blend of styles, from early Georgian church buildings to late medieval influences. Guided tours reveal the exceptional craftsmanship of the time, including intricate stone carvings and ancient frescoes that still adorn the cathedral's walls, offering a profound glimpse into the past.

The Monastery has amazing history to it. According to our guide. Prior to the Monastery an old big oak tree stayed at the top, people would sacrifice their children to the tree. Eventually it was cut down and a church built on top. Through out the years, various parts of the building are added on. You can see those differences. Inside Monks still reside and a cable cart trip is available. Remarkable view and amazing restoration taking place in the Monastery. Definitely worth while.

Very nice place. If you are close to Martvili city, you have to visit it. There is something that magnetic you. You feel something odious, powerful, strong, strange feeling... Good view on city. It's a popular place for local people to gather here. All the guests have to visit this place and feel the power of this place...

This is a quiet monastery on a hill. I recommend to take the old cable car from the village for only 1 lari per person. The man travelling with you will ask how long you will need to get back to the cable car to get down again. 20 minutes is enough.
