Zagari Pass review for our trip on 2023.08.31 - in my opinion, this mountain pass no longer holds this epic, remote, hardcore off-road, only accessible by 4x4 road status. The road construction has nearly reached Ushguli. The entire pass is full of construction workers and trucks. Some parts are still gravel and do need a high clearance car to pass easily, but I saw some Toyota Prius'es and Peugeot 308 go through them... Most of the road is constantly being used by road construction crews.
Overall, the views in this mountain pass are stunning. The nature surrounding this pass is very beautiful, but by 2025 this epic road will be accessible by literally anyone. Go and visit it now, while it's still...

Reading the reviews on the difficulty of the road we doubted whether we should go for it or not, but then decided to go and live on the edge. The roadworkers have progressed massively in their activities and only small pieces of the pass are still unpaved. Mixed feelings were our part; happy we made it without incidents and happy to have witnessed the beauty of the nature, but a bit sad the adventure seems to have gone forever. We had a 4x4, but I’m certain we would have made it as easy with a regular car. I do need to caveat it hadn’t rain for a while. Don’t let you scare off!...

Coming from Ushguli we reach a 200m stecht that was very muddy. Since it was all down hill this was not much of a problem. Uphill coming from Lentekhi will be quite a challenge though. Overall this road is much better than in past years but remains unpredictable due to landslides, avalanches, weather conditions, mud and construction. Do not attempt without 4x4 and high clearance vehicles and do not expect to make it across on you first try. And don’t forget to enjoy the...
