Lovely from the outside and impressive walls around. The whole complex is poorly signed from the outside which is mystifying and resulted in us wandering around trying to work out how to get in! FYI You cannot enter the gardens or palace at the place indicated in maps- only via the museum entrance on the side street. There’s no signs to explain - the gate is simply locked/closed on the palace side and in the heat that is quite unwelcome. When you go through the museum gate - if you just want to walk around the gardens, see the chapel and view the palace from the outside- walk up the path to the left of the museum to wander around what is a very lovely spot with wonderful views of the town below and mountains in the distance. I do not mind paying entrance but like many attractions in Georgia- it would be a vastly better experience if visitors had information and perhaps a map at the entrance so you know what you will see on the site. For example- I would have happily paid to see the palace, but you have to go back to the museum to buy the ticket,...

I love this place. I visited it for the first time a long time ago during a field trip from school. This is a fabulous place. From here you can see the unique Alazani river valley. From here you can see the legendary ridge of the Caucasus. This place was loved by the king of Kakheti and Kartli, the king of ordinary people, the legendary Heraclius II of Georgia. In this complex, there is survived and preserved the room where he was born and where he died in old age, having endured a lot of grief, wars and many battles, endured many strike of injustice, deceit of external and internal enemies of his homeland. There is great evidence that this complex looked many times better and more luxurious than it is now. I'm imagining it vividly. This is the only place in our country where the buildings of the royal residence have been more or less preserved. This residence has suffered a lot of destruction and fire. This is a...

Take a look inside this beautiful palace of King Erekle II . The stained glass is stunning and casts beautiful shadows on the floor. The exhibits have historical artifacts throughout the castle with descriptions in Georgian and English.
