With a surface area of approximately 47 square kilometres, it is the sixth largest lake in Germany. The lake is at an elevation of 533 metres, and has a maximum depth of 81 metres.

It may be a good place for cycling. It is not a nice place to swim. The water is not that clean near to the beach. Very disappointing is the number of mosquitoes in the summer when the weather is sunny. We could not walk in peace or sit in the balcony. Our bodies turned to red spots after half a day.
