Frauenberg Castle — Attraction in Baumholder

Even though they call it ruins of Frauenburg, the towers are well preserved or reconstructed. Unfortunately, you cannot access them. The signs and explanations are in German and English. From the village (head towards sports club Lauretta) it's a short walk towards the impressively huge bridges. Once you passed the way under the bridges, a narrow path through the forest leads you...

Great location We really enjoyed seeing these ruins. Much of the original is long gone, but the inner courts and other structures remain. You can imagine what a nice locations this must have been when it was in its prime. It's worth going and seeing, and great for a small hike! On another note...there is a small plaque on the ruins that mentions rapunzel....

Eine kleine Burgruine und die Gegend wegen ihre Wanderwege sind sehenswert. Vom Parkplatz aus ist man in 10 Minuten oben an der Ruine angekommen. Der Weg zur Burg ist komplett geteert und daher gut mit dem Kinderwagen zu erreichen. Die Burgruine selbst und die Wanderwege sind dagegen nicht geeignet für einen Kinderwagen oder sonstiges. Die Traumschleife Gräfin Loretta bin ich jetzt nur einen Teil gegangen um an die Ellenbach zu kommen. Für Fotografen ist die Burgruine selbst nicht so anziehend, die Ellenbach dagegen schon mit ihren zahlreichen Stufen bilden sich kleine Wasserfälle und Läufe die ein sehr schönes Motiv bieten. Mit kleinen Kindern ist Vorsicht geboten auf den Wanderwegen, da kein seitlicher Schutz gegen abrutschen vorhanden ist und stellenweise geht es bis zu 3-4 Meter in die Tiefe...Trotzdem ein gutes...
