Easily get there with S-Bahn or U-bahn and then walk for 15-20 minutes.
There are different spots to stop buy and one of them you can buy food and drinks - I recommend you to bring your food/drink.
Once you find your spot in the sand, stay there forever. It's a small area and people often don't find nice places to stay after a while and you need to find other places around the lake that might not have enough sunlight. So come early when it's a warm weekend.
I'd say the public is mixed. With more family and children, more chilled ans relaxed.
